[Adta] RE: ADTR private practice in California

Hello Everyone,
I am currently navigating the ins and outs of private practice in California as an ADTR (and not an MFT, NCC, LCSW etc). I would like to know how others have navigated private practice as ADTRs with regards to state and federal regulations for private practice: what ways dance therapists define and protect themselves legally in private practice. I welcome advice/insights/recommendations.
Thanks so much,
Forest

Hello, my name is Michelle Samuels.
I am interested in finding more information regarding dance therapy regarding educational institutions that provide this program, administration requirements, requirements in general, etc. I am a professional dancer, whom do to a injuries and chronic pain disease have prevented me from dancing. While dancing I found that it was an emotional and phycological therapy not just a joy for performance and dance on a whole. From doing some research, I've come to realize that this form of therapy has been used to help people with disabliliies along with phycological/emotional distress. I live in Canada, and am looking for institutions not only in the United States, but if you have any information on Canadian institutions, this would be appreciated. Thanks you

Virginia Reed has a new Internet radio show, called a Woman's Perspective.
Last Friday she very ably hosted a program on body image. I was fortunate to
be a guest as a dance therapist, as was Martha Eddy, a somatic practitioner
who some of you may know, as well Colleen Thomas, a dancer in NY. I think the
show was good, because she addressed issues around body image, but she
discussed it with people who come from a body perspective, which gives a message
that we are the experts.
It is archived if you want to hear it: _www.progressiveradionetwork.org_
(http://www.progressiveradionetwork.org) , look on the Friday schedule.

Dear ADTA community:
We are vey excited to announce that the New Jersey Chapter is finally
re-INCORPORATED!!!!!!
It was a long, time-consuming process for us, but Joy (Vrooman Sayen, our
Treasurer) and I are very, very, very happy to have our Certificate of
Incorporatioin in our hands. Joy and I "celebrated" by going to the bank
and openning an account! We are ready to get things going again for the
Chapter.
Thank you to everybody in the ADTA commuity who gave us support and
encouragement. We are not completely done with the legal papers (still more
papers to file with the Federal government and the IRS), but we just wanted
to share our excitement and relief that we finally got this much done!!

Hi Laurel!
Congratulations! I just listened to most of the show & it was just
wonderful. Unfortunately, I couldn't get rid of the background music so I
had to concentrate very hard.
This was a very exciting program though & I'm so glad you were a part of it.
Clearly, many programs could be done on this subject.
Bravo to you all! & best of luck also to Virginia Reed who is also an ADTR

Announcing a new book from
Paul R. Kimmel
& Chris E. Stout
COLLATERAL DAMAGE
The Psychological Consequences of America's War on Terrorism
Foreword by Philip G. Zimbardo
Color-coded terrorism "alerts" are issued, then "lifted" with no
explanation. False alarms can, like crying wolf, desensitize people
to a real need to be on alert. And that psychic numbing is just one
effect discussed in this book by fifteen psychologists teamed up for
a critical look at the U.S. war on terrorism. These experts are led
by the Chairman of the American Psychological Association task force
charged with pinpointing the effect of our anti-terrorism efforts on
America's mental health. Together, they present the most up-to-date
and intriguing picture we have of the fallout on our own people from
our own programs. The text spotlights fueled stereotyping of
foreigners, increased domestic hate crimes, fear, depression and
helplessness, as well as increasing militancy and belligerence,
especially among students. Perhaps most disturbing in the "land of
the free," our attention is drawn to growing acceptance of
restrictions on our personal freedoms, and acceptance of human rights
violations.
Contributors to this collection aim to give us a reality check,
looking at what our national reactions to terrorism have been, how
those reactions have affected the psyche of our people and whether
this has made us stronger or weaker, and more or less likely to be
the target for future attacks.
PAUL R. KIMMEL is Chair of the American Psychological Association's
Task Force on the Psychological Effects of Efforts to Prevent
Terrorism. He is past President of Psychologists for Social
Responsibility, and an Adjunct Faculty member at the Saybrook
Graduate School and Research Center.
CHRIS E. STOUT is Series Editor for the Praeger series, Contemporary
Psychology. Stout is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and a Clinical
Full Professor at the University of Illinois College of Medicine's
Department of Psychiatry. He served as NGO Special Representative to
the United Nations and is a Founding Director of the Center for
Global Initiatives. He has published some 300 papers and 30 books and
manuals on psychology and his works have been translated into six
languages.
