[Adta] Internship private practice hours not

Hi everyone--

I've reviewed a lot of state licensure requirements (online) in the past few years. Some states have a two-tiered system (Tennessee, New York, I think and I forget which others) where grads who haven't done the professional hours to qualify for licensure get an interim-temporary limited license. I don't think this lower level of pre-licensure qualifies its holders to do private practice. Social workers have similar regs in those states that have this two-tier system.

I have to say that my personal opinion includes the somatic input that the thought of a grad student who hasn't completed their internship but is doing private practice makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck. Good clinical supervision is no substitute for experience and seasoning.

In sum, I would say that quality control is vital to the empowerment and future of mental health professions. More is better.
