Hello All,
I thought that other dance therapists may be interested in knowing about
this book which is coming out in January. IACD stands for International
Association of Creative Dance and is a group committed to the continued
practice, teaching and study of the work of Barbara Mettler. The book
focuses on teaching creative dance, particularly in educational settings.

Subject: [IACD] creative dance book soon to be published
Hi dance friends, Lynne McNett and I are happy to announce that the book
that we have been writing for the last 10 years, Creative Dance for
Learning:
The Kinesthetic Link is finally about to be published! It will be
available
in January and can be pre-ordered now at _www.amazon.com_
(http://www.amazon.com) and also at the McGraw-Hill website:
_www.mhhe.com_ (http://www.mhhe.com)
The book is heavily Mettler-based and also draws from influences of
Margaret H'Doubler and Rudolf Laban (both of whom Barbara admired). There
are over 100 photographs taken by Gene Einfrank, a professional
photographer/videographer who both danced with Barbara and filmed her
movies and videotapes. The photographs are of school and community groups
including some IACD members.
Here's a paragraph we wrote that summarizes what you will find in the book.
If you want to know more or have questions, please write us via this yahoo

Happy Holidays, Mary Ann Brehm
Creative Dance for Learning: The Kinesthetic Link is a comprehensive
teaching guide that addresses the ³what², ³why² and ³how² of creative
dance. It
provides theoretical and practical guidance on teaching creative dance,
particularly in educational settings. The authors¹ approach is heavily
influenced
by Barbara Mettler, Margaret H¹Doubler, and Rudolph Laban, all legendary
figures in the field of creative dance. Their theories are combined with
the
authors¹ insights from thirty years of dance teaching experience to:
* validate dance as art education, adaptable to all ages and
abilities;
* explain a conceptual framework for teaching dance in common language
* highlight the kinesthetic sense as a guide for creating dance forms;
* provide methods of linking movement across the curriculum;
* address cultural material through creative dance;
* outline teaching progressions that develop student skill and
understanding;
* guide readers into building and presenting lessons of their own;
* provide models for assessing student learning;
* relate creative dance instruction to achievement standards in dance
and other disciplines;
* offer over 25 well-tested lesson plans and 40 adaptations that
extend the lesson material.
