President, The Andréa Rizzo Foundation

What an honor it was to be a part of such an inspiring weekend in Long
Beach.

I am still pinching myself in disbelief that I should be the recipient of
the Outstanding Achievement Award. How exciting to finally put faces to the
names of a long list of people who have been with me every step of the way.
My sincere thanks to all.

It was particularly poignant for me to meet, face to face, Diane Duggan, as
she was Andréa's inspiring professor at NYU. Many of you don't know that it
was Diane, along with Susan Cohen of the Hackensack University Medical
Center (a friend of a dear friend of mine), who first held my hand in those
very early months as I began my quest to institute a foundation that would
fulfill Andréa's dream of bringing dance/movement therapy to children with
cancer and special needs. Diane was responsible for planting the seed that
eventually brought Suzi Tortora to us and thus the beginning of a pediatric
dance/movement therapy program at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
What an incredible gift.

One that has carried this dream to reality.

Our Dance Across America fundraising initiative (we are a grass roots

non-profit) has brought support from dancers across the country through
benefit performances by Universities and Dance Companies....along with
dance-a-thons at local Dance Studios. Now a wonderful opportunity for all of
us has emerged.

The most meaningful way to give back to the dancers who have helped with
this initiative, is to bring the gift of dance/movement therapy to their
community. And so...we give grants of up to 4 hours of dance therapy for
children with special needs in their local school systems. Of course we hope
that it will inspire the school system to match the grant for future
sessions. In some cases extended programs have been established. It's a
win-win situation for everyone.....especially the children.

Please let us know if you would be willing to work on a per diem basis if a
dance studio/company in your hometown participates in our Dance Across
America initiative. The foundation will compensate the dmt at the rate of
$100 per hour.

In fact, we would be most grateful for your support in spreading the word
about our Dance Across America initiative.....and thus spreading
dance/movement therapy far and wide. We envision this as our way of
sustaining Dréa's Dream...Dance/Movement therapy for children with cancer
and special needs.

All materials needed for a successful event will be provided to those who
inquire, AND they will receive PRESS for their efforts to help our worthy
cause.

Finally, my sincerest thanks to our incredibly supportive, dedicated and
talented team of dance movement therapists who presented the work of the
Andréa Rizzo Foumdation....(not only at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer
Center, but also at The Ronald McDonald House and in public schools): Suzi
Tortora, Jocelyn Shaw, Christina Devereaux, Jean Basiner, Sharon Mulcahy and
Mary Ponsini.

Andréa's life dances on....

Warmest regards,

Susan
