Looks like this is an opportunity to visit Julliard classrooms to reach
these students re potential careers in d/mt. I hope that NY d/mts take full
advantage of this opportunity.

It is wonderful that these students want to use dance/movement to reach
trauma survivors & I hope you will be able to help them understand the
importance of acquiring the specialized training, education & skills needed
to take action re this.

Susan Kleinman, MA, ADTR, NCC

PS Please let us know on the listserve what happens re this opportunity & I
wonder if some of these students might be interested in being a part of our
next conference in Brooklyn, in some way. ie, monitors, intro to d/mt,
performaces, etc.

Subject: Juilliard students seek movement therapy contacts

To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to you on behalf of the Juilliard School student outreach
program artREACH. We are a group of dancers, actors, and musicians who are
dedicated to creating positive change through art in both our community and
NYC. Recently, our group has expressed interest in helping survivors of
sexual abuse to rediscover the love of their own bodies through movement.
I am writing to you to ask for information concerning groups in NYC that
would be interested in doing collaborative work with college students either

in class workshops, building movement pieces, or any other sort of movement
therapy activities. I am new to the movement therapy world so any contact
information that you could give me would be lovely. I am certain that there

are already organizations and hospital programs that exist out there but
need simple (wo)manpower to keep them afloat.

I would really like to stress the fact that we are not interested in
showcasing our classical training or in any way moving in a technical
manner. Most of our members are actors and musicians and we really want to
be involved in therapeutic movement rather than dance. We value movement
for movement's sake and the therapeutic ability it has to bridge the gap
between emotions and physicality. I didn't want the fact that Juilliard is
known for more technical training to dissuade you from any potential
involvement.

Thank you in advance for your help. Any further information about
nyccat or other art therapy organizations that you could offer would be most

appreciated. In addition, if you know of other art therapy groups outside
of the specifically movement therapy world that would be more amiable to
such collaborations, please do not hesitate to include their contact
information as well.

Sincerely,
Caitlin Gwin
