[Adta] So You think you can dance!

Dear dance therapists and dance therapy supporters,

I agree with Susan. I think this is an IMPORTANT OUTREACH opportunity.
Regardless of what you might like or dislike about the show – regardless of
whether you have even SEEN the show… it has an audience – an audience of
people who love dance, who do dance, who wish they could dance… Here is a
chance to … NOT preach to the choir, but preach to the masses outside the
church who might join the choir if they just knew it existed!

Granted, the message boards are primarily attended to by teenagers and
possibly college students…. But they are the youth who are passionate about
dance! Will all of them scroll down the topics to read about dance therapy?
Probably not… but the kids who post are passionate about it and some WILL
happen across our board. Ideally, the judges and producers – one of them –
might take note… if we can get the numbers up… BUT even if the big wigs
don’t…even if the producers and celebrities don’t read our posts… dance
loving youth will – and who knows how many of the MILLIONS of young dancers
who are fans of this show will say the words “dance therapy” for the first
time and click on the ADTA website to quench their curiosity.

AND, if we can get the numbers up in the hundreds, dare I say THOUSAND posts
on the DMT topic, I can’t help but think some production assistant’s
assistant is going to point it out to a suit.

I passionately encourage you – yes all of you who are reading this message
right now because you are a member of this listserve - to extend yourself
for 5 minutes to tell YOUR story on the So You Think You Can Dance
listserve. One paragraph about how YOU transitioned from dancing to wanting
to become a dance therapist. Or share ONE paragraph about the power of
dance in your work with a client. Make DMT real to the readers of that
website – make them want to learn more.

I have checked the site and discovered as Susan did that it doesn’t look the
same as yesterday. That is because there are so many posts every minute that
the site only has the most active messages on its opening page – the hottest
topic so to speak.

To post YOUR story – your one paragraph, make it real, DMT story…

1)	Go to http://forums.fox.com/foxsytycd

2)	Register as a subscriber (don’t worry, it’s not like the listserves, you
won’t be receiving emails in your inbox)

3)	Click on “messages” in the top left corner.

4) Scroll down to “judges, choreographers, producers” and look
for the “Dance Therapy as a Career Option Too.” Click on this and reply with
your own message.

This has to be one of the easiest, quickest, cheapest ways to do PR for DMT.
If each member of this listserve – some 1000 members posted… it’s TOO EASY
to let go by.

Everyone.
Please pitch in.
If only everything was this easy. Five minutes from each member of the
listserve. That is all.

With vim and vigor,
Lora Wilson, MA, DTR

P.S. NINE posts right now.
