Hello All,

In addition to my career as a dance/movement therapist, I have also been an antique dealer. I am downsizing, and, even though they are small, I am letting go of 2 antique ball room dance guides.

One is hard cover, dated 1848, entitled The Ball-room Companion, A Hand-book for The Ball-room and Evening Parties.

A few interesting quotations "The present work contains . . . all the information which is interesting to the world of dancing at the commencement of a winter season." Included are "the various Quadrilles, Mazourkas, Galopades, Polonaises".

"Dancing has well been called the poetry of motion. It is the art whereby the feelings of the mind are expressed by measured steps, regulated motions of the body, and graceful gestures. It has probably its primitive type in the significant movements of animals, when excited either by rage or passion. Hence two generic descriptions of dance may be deduced, namely, war-dances and love-dances."

This book is about 3 1/2" by 4 1/2", has gold edges, the cover has some wear, but the binding is good. The pages have some foxing.

The other is a paper cover book, and the front cover has come loose, the back is missing, and possibly additional pages missing toward the end. It is entitled American Dancing Master, and Ball-room Prompter: containing about Five Hundred Dances. Published by Elias Howe, Boston in 1865. There are 160 pages. Condition is pretty good, except for torn back pages.

I would sell either of them for $5 a piece, if anyone is interested. Postage is free within the U.S.

If you are interested, please reply to me, and not all.
Thanks,
Donna
