Thank you Lora, and Nana for writing about the meaningful times you have
had during LivingDance~LivingMusic. Thanks also to those of you have
sent me comments and questions. Since a number of the questions were
similar, I thought I would respond to two of them.
With whom can you use LivingDance~LivingMusic?
LivingDance~LivingMusic emerged 20 years ago during my work with the
Rochester Eating Disorders Organization. Since then I have used it
successfully with adults in partial hospitalization programs,
emotionally disturbed children and adolescents in residential treatment,
their parents, and in my private practice at Kinections.
My private practice includes male and female adolescents and adults.
Some come because nothing else has worked. Others come for specific
reasons, ranging from mood disorders to conduct disorders, and from
relationship issues to creative blocks. Whatever the presenting problem,
we work with the basic elements of LivingDance. As in all therapy, how I
choose to work with them depends on the case.
I also run dance/movement therapy sessions for male and female adults
and adolescents at Unity Hospital System, the hub of western NY's Center
for Excellence in the Treatment of Eating Disorders.
LivingDance~LivingMusic and Chace circles are my prime methods of
intervention.
How does LivingDance~LivingMusic combine elements of Chace and Whitehouse?
I can't imagine any dance/movement therapist, no matter what approach he
or she uses, not embracing Chace's investment in movement empathy,
rhythm, symbolism; and basic body action. Nor can I imagine any working
dance/movement therapist who does not attend to polarities, authentic
expression, and the differences between judging/assessing and
witnessing. In LivingDance~LivingMusic the dancers learn how to think
and talk as witnesses. However, music and the basic elements of
LivingDance are always part of the process.
If you want to know more about LivingDance~LivingMusic, please check out
our web site or experience it yourself at the ADTA conference. We will
have live music as our title implies. I will also let you know how I
bring LivingMusic into my day time sessions during the week when live
music is not available.
Please write back if you have any more questions.
