[Adta] In support of the ADTA Listserve & increasing involvement
& additional "respondents"

Hi Lora, & Everyone
In the early 90's I acquired a new skill- typing, and found that it opened
many doors for me- I could write less tediously, I could share with my
colleagues through e mail & the computer-I no longer had to either hesitate
to write a professional letter or ask someone to type it for me & I felt far
more independent & free to be creative.
It is still a wonder to me & for me, taking my involvement within ADTA as
well as outside, to a different level. Communicating via the listserve was
a natural progression that has allowed me to get to know a lot of people
globally, facilitate communication amongst us, answer questions about our
history that I knew the answers to, and encourage collaboration in new ways.
For many of us, there are no d/mts at our work place, or perhaps only a few
in our area. In some cases, there may be only one d/mt in a particular state
or country,& certainly no chapters in many places! This makes our
communication even more important. Also, many projects have started because
of our input on the listserve- most recently, the bibliographies/search for
evidence based writings & the "So You Think You can Dance" advocacy project.
To me, this is grass roots work at it's best.
Some of us only get to see one another once a year- some every few years, &
some of us have never even met, but we possess a certain kinship that is
extremely important to our well-being, both professional and personally.
In response to Lora's statements ( see below), I think it may be time to
take the listserve to a new level & to develop additional protocols or
pathways for assuring that all questions/issues that appear on the listserve
receive at least one official response. Although I respond to many, I do not
respond to all of them. I'd be happy to collect information regarding ideas
you have & pass them onto Christina Devereaux, who, as ADTA PR Chair could
coordinate it further with the ADTA Board & with the PR committee, which
always welcomes new voices, is that right, Christina? I have a few ideas
also & some of you have already sent in ideas ( thanks Doris & Lora). The
Listserve is a great place to use your voice & increase involvement in ADTA
without even leaving home! I think fine tuning our listserve could be easily
discussed, developed & implemented during & following the ADTA conference.
I encourage everyone who attends the conference to attend the business
meeting ( It's one of my favorite parts of the conference) as well as to not
hesitate to get involved. Also, Did you know you can attend the board
meeting as an observer? If anyone is coming in early, I recommend that you
step in & witness the workings of our organization in process.
Thank you all again for your support & recognition- it means a great deal to
me.
I'll look forward to meeting & spending time with many of you in Brooklyn!

ADTA Listserve Respondent
Lora said"... Perhaps my question about who responds to inquiries was not
articulated accurately enough. I know Susan responds to a great deal.. if
not all! And I have seen other board members respond to issues that fall
within their scope. Personally, my own posts have always received
responses...But, I was specifically wondering about those many students at
any level who write in and want information or direction on particular
starting places, etc. I was unaware of Christines "letter to students" that
is apparently on the website. It's wonderful. Good job! Are these students
then being redirected (off of the listserve) to this page by someone?
I don't have a problem with the listserve receiving CCs of a response to a
post - regardless of who responds - If even just the first one so the rest
of us can "witness" the "being seen and heard." I don't think "ONE" CC
response to each post will clog up the listserve.. but that's just my
opinion.
I have no doubt that the majority of the posts receive timely responses and
direction - I guess I didn't even realize that Susan was acting as an
appointed role on the PR committee, though her omnipresence should have made
that obvious to me. Clearly there is protocol in place. Thank you, to all of
you who contribute your time to respond and keep this listserve alive and
kicking."

Allow me to reiterate the reiteration!
I am continually amazed at Susan's presence on the listserve. How any one
person could live and work AND attend to all listserve matters in the highly
attuned way that she does... my hat goes off to you Susan! What a huge
commitment of your personal time, fulfilling this appointed position! Your
commitment inspires me to stay active on the listserve and to remain
interactive with my peers. But I have days at a time when life just gets
too busy... and yet, Susan is ALWAYS HERE. She has created a wonderful
holding environment for all of us. KUDOS KUDOS KUDOS!
Perhaps my question about who responds to inquiries was not articulated
accurately enough. I know Susan responds to a great deal.. if not all! And I

> You are a constant presence on the board, and I'd like to publicly
appreciate you for that. In addition to this public "holding environment",
Susan helped me edit a piece of writing for the conference proceeding a
couple of years ago in response to a listserve question.

> Dear Lora & All,
> That is an excellent question... Of course, It is preferential that all
inquiries and discussion points offered to the Listserv receive at least one
response online. As a member of the Public Relations Committee, an
appointed position, The ADTA Listserve Respondent is an appointed to monitor
and ensure that Listserv inquiries and discussion points are addressed. The
Listserv Respondent is a member of the ADTA who reports to the Public
Relations Chairperson. The Listserv Respondent's functions are to stimulate
communication, to be responsive, to correct myths by presenting reality
based facts and resources, to foster interaction, and to make the Listserv
'participant friendly'.
> Our amazing Listserve Respondent is Susan Kleinman. She keeps our
discussions generated, answers inquires, however, as you know, she can't
possibly do it all and we are always looking for persons interested in
serving to assist in this capacity and serve as alternate in case our
respondent is unable to respond to such inquiries. This is why we do hope
that all of you too chime in and respond when an interesting topic comes
across.

> Dynamic, Responsive, Effective Infrastructure Advancing DMT Scholarship
and Practice in the Best Interests of Our Constituents
> A Strong Public Image
> And Expanding Membership that is Vibrant, Diverse, and Actively Involved
> Our listserve serves many functions in our community and in the public.
I'm glad to know that you are concerned that inquires are getting responded
to... and certainly it is our desire as well.
> Our Susan Kleinman, our listserve Respondent does an amazing job in this
area. I know all of you know her name, and email "skdmt2" I do want to take
this opportunity, since Lora brought this up, to publicly thank Susan for
her consistent "holding environment" that she provides for us in our
cyberspace community!! A million "thanks" to Susan!! Certainly, however,
each of you serve to work towards these visions as well!!
