INTRODUCTION TO FOCUSING - SEPTEMBER
In Sept., I'll be offering small, 2- session Introduction to Focusing
groups for 3 - 5 people. The cost is $70 for two sessions. I've
tentatively scheduled Mondays, Sept. 11 and 18 from 12 pm to 2 pm,
and Wednesdays, Sept. 19 and 26 from 6 pm to 8 pm
Sessions will be arranged at your convenience if three friends would
like to meet at a given time.
.
Focusing, developed by Gene Gendlin, is a approach in which the
individual monitors the “felt sense” or internal sensation of an issue
or problem and follows the body’s response to the words or images
chosen to describe it. When the right word or “handle” is found,
there occurs what Focusing defines as a “felt shift”: a sense of
movement or change that validates the selected phrase or image.
Focusing is a dance between cognition and sensation. Situations
examined in this way, with the body and the thoughts in communion,
gradually become clearer and options open up. Focusing is usually
done in partnerships with the listener offering a friendly, interested
attention to the focuser's process. A focusing interaction has a
clarity that facilitates communication and understanding.
Listening to someone with a focusing attitude is useful in any
context and is particularly helpful with clients.

I am a Certified Focusing Trainer, LCSW and dance/movement therapist.
