Dear Lora,
I will offer a very short summary here: The credential RSMT is
conferred through ISMETA.
ISMETA is a consortium of organizations, training programs and
individuals who work in somatic education, movement, and body work. Some
RSMTs have roots in LMA, as LIMS is a member organization of ISMETA.
There is also a RSME (E for Educator) designation conferred by ISMETA.
As I understand it, the main difference between DMT and the work of
practitioners with the RSMT is the element of mental health and
psychotherapy. As you know, DMT education involves extensive study of
psychology and the development of psychotherapy skills and competencies.
That is not uniformly the case in somatic movement therapy professional
preparation. The work does overlap with regards to many aspects of
movement, and sometimes with dance. I recommend that you check out the
ISMETA website for more information: www.ismeta.org
Hope this helps!
Yours,
Sherry

Are there any D/MTs out there who also have this credential or know someone who does and can elucidate about similarities, differences, etc? My first instinct as to difference would be an absence of actual "dance" in their practice....
