Hi Sherrie & everyone

You said: "As I understand it, the main difference between DMT and the work
of practitioners with the RSMT is the element of mental health and
psychotherapy. As you know, DMT education involves extensive study of
psychology and the development of psychotherapy skills and competencies.
That is not uniformly the case in somatic movement therapy professional
preparation. The work does overlap with regards to many aspects of movement,
and sometimes with dance"

It seems to me that there is an additional factor re d/mt- perhaps more but
that we also have developed significant theory and skills that are unique to
d/mt process and separate d/mt from other forms of movement work that may
also include aspects of dance.

Do others have thoughts re this? I think articulating our theories
specifically as d/mts is extremely impt.

What do you all think re this?

Dear Lora,

I will offer a very short summary here: The credential RSMT is conferred
through ISMETA.

ISMETA is a consortium of organizations, training programs and individuals
who work in somatic education, movement, and body work. Some RSMTs have
roots in LMA, as LIMS is a member organization of ISMETA. There is also a
RSME (E for Educator) designation conferred by ISMETA.
As I understand it, the main difference between DMT and the work of
practitioners with the RSMT is the element of mental health and
psychotherapy. As you know, DMT education involves extensive study of
psychology and the development of psychotherapy skills and competencies.
That is not uniformly the case in somatic movement therapy professional
preparation. The work does overlap with regards to many aspects of movement,
and sometimes with dance. I recommend that you check out the ISMETA website
for more information: www.ismeta.org

Hope this helps!

Yours,

Sherry

Hello everyone. Hope the holiday season is starting smoothly for all.

I have a question about another profession (related?) and hoping some of you
might have some insight. Do any of you have first hand knowledge about the
field of Somatic Movement Therapy and how it may or may not relate to D/MT?

Someone with the title RSMT has recently expressed interest in a D/MT
position and I must confess I don't know the history of this field or how it
connects to us if at all. Are there any D/MTs out there who also have this
credential or know someone who does and can elucidate about similarities,
differences, etc? My first instinct as to difference would be an absence of
actual "dance" in their practice....

I look forward to your replies and to my education on the topic!

Thanks and peaceful blessings to you!
