Los Angeles, California
2007-2008 
Approved Provider of Continuing Education by the California Board of
Behavioral Sciences for MFTs and LCSWs (#3888)

This coursework adheres to the American Dance Therapy Association Guidelines
for ADTR¹s Teaching Alternate Route Training Courses, and includes D/MT
Theory & Practice, D/MT Group Process, Kestenberg Movement Profile, Laban
Movement Analysis, and Anatomy/Kinesiology.
 
Beginning: May 18, 2007  -  September 2008
 
 This 17-month coursework meets primarily one weekend a month
(Friday-Sunday, 9:00am - 6:00pm) with the exception of a one week intensive
course in Anatomy/Kinesiology. Most classes are held on the campus of Loyola
Marymount University (LMU) in Los Angeles, California unless otherwise
indicated. The university is close to the LAX airport with dorm rooms
available in the summer and hotels near by.

May 18, 19, 20        Kestenberg Movement Profile
                
The Kestenberg Movement Profile (KMP) (20 Hours)
Instructor: Susan Loman, MA, ADTR, NCC

Course Description:  The Kestenberg Movement Profile (KMP), is a
comprehensive movement assessment tool that detects the presence of both
healthy and dysfunctional movement patterns in individuals of all ages.  It
traces developmentally-based patterns throughout the life span and can be
used to describe personality, relational and psychological domains.
Dance/movement therapists and those trained in the KMP can apply its
concepts in their clinical/educational work by designing treatment plans and
implementing appropriate interventions based on the individual's movement
portrait.  Goals include helping the individual assess healthy choices and
coping skills through accessing strengths and broadening them.

Course Objectives:  1)  Students will become familiar with the basic
concepts and movement patterns of the Kestenberg Movement Profile (KMP).  2)
Students will develop an understanding of applications of the KMP with child
and adult populations.  3)  Students will learn the relevance of KMP
concepts to self-awareness and movement preferences. 4)  Students will learn
the relevance of KMP concepts to relational dynamics with others.  5)
Students will gain an experiential and theoretical knowledge of KMP movement
patterns.

This course can be applied to 20 hours of movement observation/assessment
for the ADTA Alternate Route ­ DTR Level Registry.

This course is approved for CE for the ADTA.  ADTA is an approved provider
for the National Board of Certified Counselors (Provider #5739). 20 CEs are
available for this workshop.
 
This course meets the qualifications for 20 hours of continuing education
credit for MFTs and/or LCSWs as required by the California Board of
Behavioral Sciences (Provider #3888).
 
 
June 5-10                                 Kinesiology Intensive
Anatomy/Kinesiology (45 Hours)
Instructor:  Karen Clippinger, M.S.P.E.
Course Description:  This course covers the anatomical and kinesiological
science of human motion. The identification of joints and muscles used to
perform actions will be reviewed with an emphasis on understanding the
proper and safe sequencing of movement actions in preparation for working
with clients.  
 
This course can be applied to 45 hours of anatomy/kinesiology for the ADTA
Alternate Route ­ DTR Level Registry.

Dance/Movement Therapy ­ Theory I  (45 Hours):
Instructor:  Pamela Fairweather, MA, ADTR, NCC

Course Description:  This is an introductory level course reviewing the
theoretical origins of dance/movement therapy as a therapeutic modality.
The foundational tenets defining dance/movement therapy as a creative,
healing and integrating process will be presented in relation to self and
other awareness and insight oriented symbolic functioning.  The course will
review the history and conceptual development of the major pioneers in the
field and the application of their work within various settings.
Additionally, the cultural, ritual, modern dance and nonverbal communication
historical elements will be reviewed.

Course Objectives:  1) Students will become familiar with the basic concepts
of dance/movement therapy.  2) Students will develop and understanding of
the interaction between sensory processes and creative emotional expression.
3) Students will learn the relevance of dance/movement therapy concepts to
self-awareness and symbolic insight.  4) Students will learn the relevance
of dance/movement therapy concepts to relational dynamics with others.
5) Students will gain an experiential and theoretical knowledge of
dance/movement therapy principles.

³This course has been approved by the American Dance Therapy Association as
meeting requirements for the Alternate Route D.T.R. credential² and
satisfies 45 hours of D/MT Theory & Practice Training.

This course meets the qualifications for 45 hours of continuing education
credit for MFTs and/or LCSWs as required by the California Board of
Behavioral Sciences (Provider #3888).
