Hi Susan ... Thanks for your post.

I do recall you mentioning this group in the past, but I appreciate hearing
about it once again. I sounds absolutely beautiful. I would love to hear
more about it. Perhaps you might consider presenting it at one of our
conferences, or at least joining some of us for our get-together ...
whenever and wherever that might be.

Thanks,

Jody

Hi Jody & Everybody

It looks like there is interest in another special application for d/mt.
Although you may have not been thinking clinically, I am, because
spirituality is an area that probably needs more attention from us as a
profession. For the past 6 months or so we have been providing a large group
( whole facility) format called "Inspiration celebration" (IC) it is not
religious but it is spiritual- a minister is involved but it is patient led
& driven. There is a d/mt piece performed each week along w/ a narrative
that is read while the pts perform their 'dance". It is always very moving &
I have become very involved in the support as well as execution of the IC. I
think I have mentioned it before on the listserve.

I just wanted to acknowledge, however, that the movement piece I facilitate
is clearly d/mt &" touching the "spirit"/soulful experiences are what we do
in our work. In this particular forum, however, it is being recognized &
very much appreciated.

I hope that those of you who are interested in the application of movement
into prayer/spiritual settings, also consider that there Can also be places
in clinical settings where our work can be developed.

I am hoping that some of you with this interest WILL join together to
explore these issues & I'd love to see a forum for this at ADTA
conferences.

Jody- thanks for initiating discussion re this. It is very exciting to see
the wonderful response you have illicited.

Dear Barbara, Gabrielle, Donna and others,

Thank you so much for responding to my post and for providing me with
support while you share some of your own stories. I would so much love to
speak with you each about what you do and how you do it ... and to have an
opportunity to brainstorm/play together about ways in general to introduce
movement into prayer/spiritual settings. I was wondering if we might try to
get together at the upcoming conference in NYC. Are you planning on being
there? Perhaps someone would like to spearhead a workshop on this topic. I
am already hoping to present on some other work and feel my plate is too
full to prepare for a second presentation. The deadline is tomorrow so it
would need to be a RUSH application. I know we can continue this
conversation on line, but it would be nice to have a
face-to-face/body-to-body exchange. I would be happy to organize a
get-together in Brooklyn for any intersted dmt to join us. What do you
think? I look forward to hearing from you.

Jody

Hi Jody, I have been doing this for many years at my synagogue and in the
community and it is a wonderful way to help people be in an important
relationship with their movement and bodies. I have also worked with
bringing more movement into some of the specific prayers and experiences
with in the service (and have actually been asked to do somethings in local
churches as well) I am also involved in my own process of exploring the
embodied experiences of Jewish mystical concepts (Kabbalah) and have led
some workshops at some of our regional women's retreats combining movement,
awareness and Jewish concepts. It usually well received as well.

I would love to find others who are working with this and share what we are
doing and have some conversations about it....anybody else???? Barbara

Hi all,

Although not a conference per se ... I would like to mention that I have
just returned from a weekend retreat with members of my temple. It was a
retreat designed to explore the many aspects of prayer. I was invited to
join as a participant and to weave in some movement experiences ... and so I
taught some Israeli folkdance after Friday night services, facilitated some
stretching and offered a workshop on incorporating movement into our own
personal style of prayer. Regarding the workshop, I had many ideas in mind
as I entered this session, but really didn't "know" what I wanted to present
until the very moment I began moving with my fellow explorers. In essence
what unfolded was a dance/movement "therapy" session. It was a rich and
touching session that allowed each of us to connect with ourselves and one
another via the movement and the theme of prayer ... the group also
spontaneously brought in the upcoming holiday of Tu Bishvat ... the Jewish
holiday where we celebrate trees ... and although I never thought I would do
this ... I invited us to move like a tree.

As an aside, I would also like to mention that I have begun introducing
movement experiences, including movement choirs, into a monthly women's
group at this same temple, in honor of the new moon. This too has been a
beautiful experience and well received by most.

I just thought that I would share with you all a slightly different way of
introducing our work. Although my primary focus during these experiences is
on bringing another form of expression to these various services, it feels
good to be able to share this part of myself with my fellow temple members
as well as to spread the word of dmt.

Anyone else playing with this? I would love to hear how others might be
bringing movement and/or dmt into other aspects of their lives ... outside
of the work environment.

Thanks,

Jody (Wager)
