I would like to add one more piece of information to this discussion. All
active members of ADTA have the ability to go online on the ADTA website at
www.adta.org and register information about themselves INCLUDING IF THEY
HAVE A STATE LICENSE. Go to the "Members' Only" area, login with your
username and password, and choose # 7 from the list "Edit the All About You
page" -- here you can note if you have a state license. The ADTA National
Office can then download this information for all members and sort by state.
Currently very few members have completed this information -- it takes less
than 10 minutes -- do it today!

Subject: [Adta] More regarding LPC
> Hello everyone: Thanks to all who have responded regarding our issues in
> Texas and obtaining the license as Professional Counselors. It was also
> good to know that the State Counseling Boards meeting had representation
> by the ADTA. I am sure that we gained a greater understanding of what we
> need to do as an organization to help the members become licensed in their
> states, if that is what we choose to do.
> I noticed that Sheila and Ellen called for a response in the last ADTA
> Newsletter for anyone licensed as a counselor in his/her state to contact
> them. Do we have this information completed? We may need this in our
> case, as well. I would like to know what states recognize dance
> therapists as counselors and how many/which states currently have licensed
> DMTs who didn't have to obtain a lot of extra coursework or supervision to
> get the counseling license. The art therapists in Texas are able to
> obtain their LPC after completing the masters' degree and after 2 years of
> full time supervision by an LPC Supervisor who is also an ATR. This would
> be difficult for us to mimic since Kalila is the only LPC Supervisor that
> is an ADTR (however, Kalilah, that may mean you get a lot of work coming
> your way LOL).
> I hope for the best for all dance therapists who are doing the same in
> your respective states. I really do believe that the more we communicate
> with each other, the more help we will provide each other due to similar
> situations going on from state to state.
> Sincerely, Jennifer Edwards, MA, ADTR, NCC
