Using Movement and the Creative Arts Therapies
Within Group Process with Children

This workshop will describe and explain the process of program development
for children with exceptionalities (Autism, Asperger's Syndrome, ADHD/ADD,
LD, communication disorders, visual/hearing impairment, sensory processing
and developmental delay, mental/emotional disorders) using a non-curriculum
based approach to skill development including:
* Common characteristics and target goals for children with
exceptionalities
* Trusting the process: Group development and group process
* Action based learning, a sensory-motor experience
* Integrating solution-focused, cognitive therapy, and
positive psychology with dance/movement therapy and other creative arts
modalities
* Balancing gross and fine motor challenges
* Understanding sensory processing dysfunction and how it can
affect the group
* Current research on bio-molecular effects of the mind/body
connection
* A case study of a 15 week group
* The business of group therapy: The pros and cons
* Branding and finding your niche
This is an excellent and unique opportunity for anyone working with children
and families to learn more about creating group programs for skill-building
and integrating creative arts and movement into their work.
Presenters Theresa Haney and Pepi Diaz-Salazar, are dance/movement
therapists and mental health practitioners from Red Hook, NY, who have
extensive experience with both practice and teaching. They have successfully
built their skill-building programs in 3 locations, both suburban and rural,
and are enthusiastic about teaching others how to integrate the arts within
clinical practice.
This training is suitable for: Dance/movement and Creative Arts Therapists,
Professional Counselors, Social Workers, Psychologists, Special Education
Teachers, Adaptive PE Instructors, Dance Educators, and Students of these
professions.
DATES: February 2-4, 2007 Friday 6-8 pm, Saturday 9-4:30, Sunday 9-1
LOCATION: The Wanek Medical Center, 6 North Pointe Court, Greensboro, NC
FEE: Friday evening only $25
