Re: Doctoral Programs

I did my doctoral work in Psychology and the Arts in the mid eighties at the Union Institute-then the Union of Experimenting Colleges and Universities. The process of researching and conceptualizing was critical to my development as a faculty member and program developer and I strongly recommend doctoral study for anyone who is interested in teaching in an academic institution and becoming a leader in the field. At the time of my doctoral studies Union was really the only viable alternative in the creative arts therapy field and depended entirely upon self directed learning . Now Lesley University offers the PhD in Expressive Therapy . We are entering our seventh year of the program and have several ADTR students in the program. The program allows for an in depth examination of critical research methodologies and developments in the field as well as an intensive personal, sociocultural and artistic creative process. The program has been re-designed to meet the needs of working professionals and can be accomplished through summer residencies with coursework assignments continuing through the traditional academic year. This summer intensive model is designed to support the student though all the phases of doctoral study and I strongly recommend that anyone who is interested contact our Program Director Michele Forinash asap at mforinas at mail.lesley.edu
