Hi Carolyn
I'm sure someone from our leadership will write you w/ more specific info
but ADTA isn not considered a non profit organization- it is a 501-c 6
You might consider applying to the Chace Foundation for a grant.
You might also research non profit organizational info on the internet to
see exactly what that means & to learn more re organizational designations.
Good luck

Subject: [Adta] applying for grant - need help
Perhaps someone (or many) can help a group of us in Portland, Oregon who are
considering applying for grant money to offer dance-therapy groups to
women's shelters or similar agencies. A few of us (unfortunately not
myself) had the opportunity to both see a performance and participate in a
workshop (that seemed very much like dance therapy to some) and were
inspired to look into the possibility of getting similar underwriting by
Johnson and Johnson to offer services in our area. (Gibney's work was
sponsored by J & J). Another woman, a retired doctor, who moves with us in
a weekly improvisation group and has some experience with grant writing,
proposals, etc. was very eager to facilitate the effort. We believe we
would need to have nonprofit status to make the proposal. We were wondering
if it was possible to utilize the ADTA's nonprofit designation in some way
(legally of course!) to make this happen. There are at least four dance
therapists involved and our Oregon group does have an unofficial study-group
designation with the ADTA. As is probably clear we are all pretty new at
this business of applying for grants so would appreciate any suggestions and
guidance from the seeming boundless wisdom of the listserve participants.
Thanks.
Carolyn Johnson
