  Hello CATS! In response to Creative Arts Therapy week I'd like to tell you about a panel that I am speaking on this Wed., March 21st at 2:00 p.m. My name is Lena Friedman and I have been practicing as an Art Therpist for the past 12 years. I am currently working at the Bellevue Hospital Chemical Dependency Clinic.The panel, "Art in the Real World" is a discussion of the Body Maps exhibit, which is currently showing at Kingsborough Community College. This is where the lecture will be held. The "Body Maps" are powerful pieces of art work that illustrate the beauty and the struggle of women effected by Aids in Africa. I will be speaking along with David Krut, the gallery owner who organized the project, and Bryony Romer, an artist well know for her  community projects.Please join us!!!!

All this week (March 18-24, 2007) is dedicated towards spreading the word about the Creative Arts Therapies (art therapy dance/movement therapy, drama therapy, music therapy, poetry therapy & psychodrama). This is the 28th anniversary of the National Coalition of Creative Arts Therapies (http://www.nccata.org) and the 41st Anniversary of the American Dance Therapy Association (Est. 1966 www.adta.org). In honor of the coalition building many creative arts therapy leaders have done over the years, we would like to invite you to celebrate within your community the extraordinary work of the creative arts therapists all over the world.     Announcing National Creative Arts Therapy Week!
    March 18-24, 2007

    The creative arts therapies include art therapy, dance/movement therapy, drama therapy, music therapy, poetry therapy, and psychodrama. 

    As a Creative Arts Therapist, we hope that you will take the opportunity to share in spreading the word about the power and the effectiveness of the healing arts during Creative Arts Therapy Week to be held March 18-24, 2007!!  

    We invite you to celebrate within your community the extraordinary work of the creative arts therapists all over the world.   
    We invite you to use this week as a public relations effort to celebrate our disciplines throughout the United States.  
    We invite you to design your own celebration of the Creative Arts Therapies.  

    What should you do?  .Do what you do best!!
    CHOREOGRAPH YOUR OWN CELEBRATION OF CAT WEEK!! 

    You could..
    * Host an open house with other CAT colleagues to display and demonstrate your modality -or provide a workshop or seminar open to the public. 
    * Offer to run a career day with colleagues at a local high school or college. 
    * Provide a staff development in-service to broaden the knowledge of other professionals in your own institution or agency. 
    * Visit other schools, nursing homes, day-care centers to provide a creative arts therapy experience. 
    * Arrange a display at your local library (and in your own institution or agency!) 
    * Put up posters and leave flyers wherever you go.
    * Send out press release to your local paper announcing Creative Arts Therapies Week activities in your community. 
    * Send a letter or e-mail to the Public Service Director of your local radio and TV stations for a PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT. (Be sure to include your contact information.) 
    * Arrange for you or a colleague to be INTERVIEWED by a local paper or station, highlighting your work. 

    Take photos and share with us about your ingenuity!!

    We can do this!!  Let's have a fantastic 2007 CAT Week!!! Go Go Go!!!
