  I've received so many wonderful emails from people telling me about their events for CAT week.  Many have also been shared on the listserve, however I wanted to re-cap for you all. what great celebrating and education about CATs is happening!!  Congratulations. I'm so proud to be a part of this motivated, driven and creative community!  Keep sharing what is happening.

  CAT WEEK 2007 Re-cap (so far..)
  Danielle O'Brien, a Creative Arts Therapist at Goddard House in Brookline, MA along with the other CATs and student interns at her facility had a panel discussion with the residents, about how they got into the field, why they each decided to bring our training to this particular place, and how older adults can benefit from dance/movement therapy, art therapy, music therapy and so on. She mentions "It was interesting to find out that none of the residents knew what creative arts therapy was, and yet this site has had creative arts therapists working there for ten years."

   

  Melissa Sackowski, a DMT student at Pratt Institute will be presenting an inservice presentation to staff at her internship site, William O'Conner Midwood School in New York!

   

  Susan Keirr-Dyer in Louisiana is presenting about dance/movement therapy to her local garden club! What a creative idea!

   

  The MD/DC/VA Chapter hosted an ADTA table at the Psychotherapy Networker conference (with 3500 registered attendees!!) in Washington DC and met as a chapter for gathering, and dancing!!!

   

  Joanabbey Sack  reports that in Montreal at Concordia University Thursday, March 22nd from 6-8pm there will be a Dance/movement therapy OPEN HOUSE where the opportunity to provide information to students and professionals and participate in exchange of information is available. There is an interesting blog site. where DMT and CAT information is posted and shared! http://dmtinfo.blogspot.com  

   

  Lisa Fladager of Langley, WA had an article in her local paper, The South Whidbey Record on Whidbey Island, WA, highlighted her work in honor of CAT week. She reports "I've had lots of positive feed back from the community."  Way to go!!

   

  Jody Wager in Washington DC reports that she and her student interns held a wonderful in-service on our work for the staff on Tuesday, March 20. She reports "We all had a fabulous time ... lots of laughter and connecting ..."

   

  The New York Chapter (NYSADTA) is hosting a workshop "Movement for Brain-based Learning and Therapy:  A Neuro-developmental Approach from Body-Mind Centering® " Led by Dr. Martha Eddy, RSMT, CMA, Saturday, March 24th 11:00-1:00pm NYU Dance Department.

  Lena Friedman, an Art Therapist working at the Bellevue Hospital Chemical Dependency Clinic in NYC presented a panel on Wed., March 21st.  The panel "Art in the Real World" was a discussion of the Body Maps exhibit, which are powerful pieces of art work that illustrate the beauty and the struggle of women effected by Aids in Africa. 

  Eri Millrod of the New Jersey Chapter reported that in honor of CAT week and the contributions that Creative Arts Therapists make in the treatment of mental health, they held a "professional renewal" at the Princeton.  Participants were invited to come celebrate your work and nurture your own creativity and artistic self. This included a Drumming Circle with Carrie Rupnow-Kidd, MMT, MT-BC and Kim Febres, MA, MT-BC; a Dance/Movement Experiential with Eri Millrod, MA, LCAT, NCC, ADTR; and an Open Art Studio with Christina Taylor, MS, LCAT, ATR-BC. What a great idea!

   

  Susan Imus of Chicago, Illinois reports that recently she presented at the Illinois Mental Health Counselor's Association Spring Conference a workshop called: Non-verbal Attending Patterns in Counseling Supervision.  Also she talked at Senator Durbin's (D-Illinois) Veteran's Panel/Press Conference at UIC (University of Illinois Chicago) on the value of body/mind approaches to treating trauma for our returning vets. It was covered by lots of politicians and press.  She reports "a number of people came up to me after I spoke and talked about their support for movement approaches to the treatment of PTSD and other mental-health related problems. There were probably 10-15 cameras and micro-phones in front of me when I spoke about dance/movement therapy as a treatment of choice.  It was scary and yet exciting at the same time."  WAY TO GO!!!!
