[Adta] DT with DD adults

Dear Rebecca,

Though books can be useful resources in terms of some basic ideas for
structured games, the best way that I have found to engage adults with
ID/DD is to come in with a selection of their favorite tunes, when I did
groups with these pop I used a lot of Beatles, monkeys, and oldies form
the 50' and 60s (of course it depends on their age and interests) and we
danced.I used props, balls, different sizes, parachutes, scarves, buddy
bands, rhythm instruments and my enthusiasm. It took some time for my
groups to get off the ground as DMT was new to them - but after about 2
months we were going strong. The other thing that amazed me when I
initially started working with this population was how much I relied on
language to organize my groups - I had come from an inpatient psych
population and they were highly verbal and then I was faced with this
exuberant group of individuals who were minimally verbal though quite
expressive - They really helped me to dig deeper into the dance/movement
of DMT.

Hope this helps,

Pepi

Hi,
I'm seeking recommendations on books with DT activities appropriate for
working with Developmentally Disabled adults. Any suggestions are
appreciated.
Thanks,
