[Adta] RE: Adta Digest, Vol 24, Issue 11

I sent this once before, but the message seems to have been scrubbed. I'll
try again. I just wanted to respond to Susan's query about this year's
conference right away before getting swept back into the routines of life.
I am sure my conference experience was colored by it's being held in my own
city, and by the exultation of being a part of the Borough Hall performance
however, I wanted to share my perceptions. My experience of this event was
of tremendous pride and awe in our profession. I felt a subtle but
momentous shift in our field as I attended one after another high level
presentation of work that demonstrated an increasing level of knowledge and
expertise in all areas of clinical and community work. It was especially
gratifying to see a shift in tone and attitude, especially talking to some
of my younger colleagues. No more 'preaching to the choir'. We are going
out into the world and speaking with greater authority about what we know
and do and the very unique provenance of our profession! The other thing
that I really loved and that also felt like part of a shift that has been
taking place over the past ten years or so, is the ways in which we have
acknowledged and honored our own. It feels like we have truly arrived at
the place in which we can freely and openly celebrate the accomplishments of
our members and that is a great thing.

warmly

Julie Miller
