[Adta] Conference Impressions

This is my 2nd ADTA conference attended, and my 1st to attend as a
first-year DMT grad student.

My initial impressions were the set-up feeling a little cramped, however
it wasn't impossible to move through the different tables set-up. The
organization of the conference last year on Long Beach was a little more
cohesive in that the flow from the registration tables on to the schools'
tables didn't feel as congested.

A key piece of our field is in research, and I was pleased to see the
poster's of current research. It doesn't feel like enough, and it would be
great to see a firmer push toward the research part of Dance/Movement
Thearpy as a means to work itself into broader areas of study (and
possible collaboration; i.e. neurosciences, etc) as well as to present it
to skeptics or those who speak in evidence-based terminology. Being able
to communicate our field is an area that I know has been the topic of
discussions and debates; as a new student, I see the growth of the field
happening in wide-ranging practica as well as evidence-based publications.
The field of Art Therapy (as a professor noted) has published significant
amounts of research, which might be correlated with its familiarity among
other communities (those unfamiliar with expressive therapies seem to be
most familiar with Art Therapy only).

Thanks for a great conference!

I also appreciate the follow-up slide show posted on the ADTA listserv!
