Jenn, I echo Vitalah's sentiments.  I dare say the present moment is THE  time to bring attention to what is happening, when it is happening. Especially those who attended the conference - we have just been energized and rejuvenated (I'm assuming I'm not the only one!) so in this moment perhaps people can respond even more articulately to your query.  I wish I had an answer for you - per my own earlier post I don't even have my OWN answer for myself!  :-)   but I'm interested in hearing what others have to say in response to your post.  It's shocking, really. And profoundly sad. And grossly irresponsible.  I feel quite certain there is a relevant comment residing somewhere in the mountain of journal articles I just downloaded on Mirror neurons... if I see something that seems relevant to this specific issue, I'll certainly forward it.
