 I remember that but I think the workshops were audio taped not video. I
think it was a money looser.

Am I remembering correctly that many years ago at one conference all the
workshops were videoed?  They then were suposed to be offered for
purchase. 
I seem to remember that it was not all that successful and interfered
with the ambience of each session.  Do I have the right organization in
mind?

Donna and Christina et al,

I videoed my own presentation as well.  I wanted to record my
presentation 
(Moving Grief through Physical Storytelling) for my own marketing
purposes 
(to have clips and sound bytes for my website).  I set the camera in one

spot so it wasn't a "full capture" of the presentation.  I have not had
the 
opportunity to review it.  I wonder about other DMTs who may have
videoed 
their own workshops at the conferences?

Hi Donna & All,

Sorry I'm very late to this discussion, the conference has put me behind
in
my "every day" duties, and now I'm trying to get back to juggling
everything
more smoothly.

Most years, we do have a PR committee member, Taylor Cook, who enjoys
video
taping and archiving opening and closing ceremonies of the conference.
I
have several on tape that she has collected for our archives (from
2003).
I've shown these at the PR table at the conference. She continues to do
this
service for us.  This year, we did videotape portions of the conference.
International Panel, select workshops for archival purposes.  This was
done
with the help of PR committee members and through via amateur
videography.

In addition, this was the first year we had a professional photographer
capture images of the conference.  The purpose of this was twofold.  1.
We
wanted and needed more images that capture up-to-date shots of our
profession that reflect its uniqueness, diversity, and community.  2.
For
ADTA archival purposes.    The professional photographer volunteered his
time to do this .. He took over 800 photos, digitally archived them, and
we
sold some photos that we printed on site for ADTA fundraising effort.
All
of the sale of these photos went to the ADTA.  This was an exceptionally
gigantic offering, that was invaluable.  We certainly could not have
afforded his services if he charged what most photographers do for 10
hour
days for 3 days.  I would worry that hiring a videographer for similar
time
etc might be an enormous expense.  I'll contact you further off the list
to
explore this from a committee's perspective and how we could think about
turning it into a project that would benefit us.  It is a fantastic idea
but
something that would require careful consideration and thought.

Your daughter's response was one similar that I experience from other
"visitors" to our banquets.  It is a feeling that is in the air,
energetically, and it is magical to experience.  I only wonder if a
video
tape could really capture this essence?  It is something to think about.

Thank you Donna, for sharing my vision of finding ways in which ADTA and
DMT
can become more visibly understood. It has been one of my missions as PR
chair during my term to freshen up our image, provide visual tools to
membership, and bring the non-verbal moments of meeting and the DMT
essence
into the visual understanding of others.  Not an easy task!

Dear All,

I only got one response to my idea of videotaping a future conference
for
p.r. purposes, perhaps because the idea was embedded in my highlights of
the
conference, or perhaps because people object to it, or don't think it
would
be useful.

Because I really do want to know if people think this would be useful, I
am
repeating it here.

 During our Saturday night dance, which is always my favorite part of
the
conference, I was seeing us from my step-son's and daughter's eyes in my
own
mind. Within 10 seconds of the music beginning, I'd say 90% of us were
on
the dance floor. My daughter laughingly said how different this was from
most dances, where usually 2 or 3 couples get out on the dance floor,
and
slowly people join. I asked my step-son if this were a bit of a culture
shock, towhich he said "a little".  I responded, "imagine how much of a
culture shock it is for us, who move so easily and attempt to be
embodied,
to live in a world which doesn't value expressive body movement". I
started
thinking about creating a video of us on the dance floor, but it didn't
take
long for me to realize that this would not help us gain professional
credibility.

However, a videotape of the conference as a whole would be another
story. It
would demonstrate the many levels where we take our work. I began
wondering
how much it would cost to produce such a video, and if it would be
feasible.
Would it be useful, do you think, as an additional tool to show who and
what
dance/movement therapists are? I know several people who have produced
documentaries, and I could begin to pursue the cost of such a venture,
if
people think this would be helpful.

Where other videos of d/mt's work show our work specifically as
therapists,
such a documentary or video could show a broader view of how dance
therapists embody our beliefs, and live and dance in the world as we
look
through a "dancing" as well as kinesthetic perspective.
