Dear all,
I would like to use this discussion to let you know that we are planning
to do some research on "body memory" at the University of Heidelberg,
Germany (Sabine Koch & Thomas Fuchs).
We would start from the phenomenological and definitional side of the
problem. My specific focus will be on how movement can evoke episodes of
autobiographical memory, and whether certain movement qualities are
suited to evoke specific memories (in order to inform our work with
movement interventions). There is very little written about the topic.
For the more implicit aspects of body memory I would like to recommend
Maxine Sheets-Johnston's "Kinesthetic Memory" Article (2003) as well as
Thomas Fuchs "Body Memory" (2004) Article, also Edward Casey has treated
the topic. If you have any other references or ideas on the topic, I
would be grateful if you could get in touch with me.
With best regards,
Sabine Koch
P.S.: I am very happy and grateful for the 2007 Research Award on "The
Joy Dance" Article.
This is my first award and it sure feels good!

"Hi Sabine!
Just a note to say that I thought this looked really interesting too -
but like you, I'm much too far away. I think I'd like to read more of
Sheets-Johnstone's work. I've used her article Thinking in Movement for
our students in the past.
Have you read Daniel Stern's book The Present Moment in Psychotherapy
and Everyday life? This is a major influence in the work at Miecat,
where I now work (and which I'm loving by the way!)."
