Hi,

Wake Up! Calm Down offers 21 bands of popular music that Elizabeth Polk
specifically chose to use in her work with childen. The lively music
is accompanied by a guide that provides instructions for how the
therapist might use the music with children with a range of
dysfunctional conditions. However, the music can easily be used when
working with clients of all ages and functions. Combined, the CD and
guide are meant to help guide interaction and rhythmic connections and
enliven a session. They will be availabe at the performance and also in
Salon E during the 9am-10:00am book signing on Friday morning Grace
Polk, Elizabeth's daughter, and Judith Klein will be selling them at
the conference for $20. The CD can also be purchased by sending a
check to Grace for $27 ($20 for the CD and $7 for shipping and
handling) at 305 East 44th Street, NY, NY 10017.

Hope this provides an overview, as per Susan's request.

Regards,
Nana Koch

I don't know of a specific assessment tool, but this seems like an
interesting topic. I would imagine that information that would be
useful t
parents and pre-school teachers would include physical parameters
(balance,
coordination, gross motor, fine motor); social skill parameters (eye
contact, parallel versus interactive play, recognition and use of
appropriate nonverbal communication in social situations, social
modeling,
socially inclusive behaviors); and emotional/psychological parameters
(use
of creative and imaginary play, expression of emotions, ability to
regulate
emotions). I am very interesed to hear others' input. BTW, it's early
for
me; still waiting for the coffee to kick in, so I probably missed
something
obvious and important.

Elizabeth,
I have used a system developed by myself with Will Freeman and
Elise
Tropea. If you are in the VT area, I would suggest that you contact Dr.
Freeman. It is much easier to understand and use the system if you get
an
explanation in person. If you are not, let me know and I will advise
you.

On Friday Evening, Libby Skala is scheduled to perform her one woman
show "A
Time to Dance" exploring the life and work of dance therapy pioneer,
Elizabeth Polk (who was Libby's Aunt).

There is a YouTube clip that gives some commentary and photos of her
during
the performance. For those who are considering to come to the show, you
might want to check it out. Seems as if it has been given rave reviews!

Hi Everybody!

Christina, thanks for sending this announcement. I just watched it & I
am
really looking forward to attending this performance.

It is a tribute to one of our own that many of us knew. How special is
that!!

For those who don't remember Elizabeth Polk, perhaps some listserve
readers,
would share a bit about her & her contributions to our profession.

I know a recording exists - Will that be available at this performance
for
those who might be interested?

Could somebody share a bit about the recording?

Thanks!

Susan Kleinman, MA, ADTR, NCC

Hi Everybody

I'm resending this message in case others would like to pre-order this
publication. I have to request ( from Renfrew) that they be sent to the
conference. Although I will be bringing a few extras "just in case" it
would be helpful to identify an approximation of the number of CDs I
should
request.

See you soon

To ADTA Conference Attendees

I look forward to seeing you all in a few weeks. I will be bringing a
limited number of the Healing Through Relationship CDs with me to the
ADTA
conference. This is a small book ( 4 chapters) that have been combined
in
the form of a CD, readable through your computer.

If you plan on attending the conference in Brooklyn, and would like
one, I
would be happy to put a CD aside for you. They are $25 & can be paid for
with credit card, check or cash. This volume is very helpful for d/mts
who
are working with people with eating disorders, or, who want to
understand
more re issues that underlie ED & how to work with people who have this
disorder. It is the finished version of the previous Working Papers that
many of you have purchased in the past.

If you are interested in this CD, please let me know.

See you soon!

Susan Kleinman, MA, ADTR, NCC
