Hi,
Wake Up! Calm Down offers 21 bands of popular music that Elizabeth Polk
specifically chose to use in her work with childen. The lively music
is accompanied by a guide that provides instructions for how the
therapist might use the music with children with a range of
dysfunctional conditions. However, the music can easily be used when
working with clients of all ages and functions. Combined, the CD and
guide are meant to help guide interaction and rhythmic connections and
enliven a session. They will be availabe at the performance and also in
Salon E during the 9am-10:00am book signing on Friday morning Grace
Polk, Elizabeth's daughter, and Judith Klein will be selling them at
the conference for $20. The CD can also be purchased by sending a
check to Grace for $27 ($20 for the CD and $7 for shipping and
handling) at 305 East 44th Street, NY, NY 10017.

I don't know of a specific assessment tool, but this seems like an
interesting topic. I would imagine that information that would be
useful t
parents and pre-school teachers would include physical parameters
(balance,
coordination, gross motor, fine motor); social skill parameters (eye
contact, parallel versus interactive play, recognition and use of
appropriate nonverbal communication in social situations, social
modeling,
socially inclusive behaviors); and emotional/psychological parameters
(use
of creative and imaginary play, expression of emotions, ability to
regulate
emotions). I am very interesed to hear others' input. BTW, it's early
for
me; still waiting for the coffee to kick in, so I probably missed
something
obvious and important.

I have used a system developed by myself with Will Freeman and
Elise
Tropea. If you are in the VT area, I would suggest that you contact Dr.
Freeman. It is much easier to understand and use the system if you get
an
explanation in person. If you are not, let me know and I will advise
you.
